Re-Use Center Warehouse Assistant

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following. Other duties may be assigned.)

1.  Accurately and professionally perform cash register sales.

2.  Maintain an attractive, organized safe and clean retail environment.

3.  Assist customers with loading purchases.

4.  Accurately and professionally receive donations, following proper procedures, screening donations according to Re-Use Center guidelines.

5.  Assist donors with the unloading of donated goods.

6.  Sort incoming donations into specified categories by department, type and size.

7.  Maintain an attractive, organized, safe and clean donations intake environment.

8.  Related duties as assigned.

9.  Learn, understand and maintain evolving systems and procedures for a friendly, professional safe and clean environment.

10.  Model safe work practices and adhere to all safety policies, using proper personal protective equipment as required and reporting unsafe working conditions to supervisor.

11.  Maintain knowledge of all donations and inventory.

12.  Adhere to the set schedule to ensure proper coverage and staffing, providing proper notice for PTO and sick time.

13.  Contribute to positive working relationships by providing exemplary customer service and willingness to support coworkers, volunteers and trainees.

14.  Deliver excellent customer and donor service and support, answer customer questions and respond to phone queries promptly and courteously.

15.  Support Re-Use center staff by communicating effectively, offering assistance and providing great teamwork.

16.  Ensure program outreach to diverse audiences, appreciate and embrace diversity in all interactions with program participants, staff, volunteers and the public.

17.  Demonstrate commitment to and practice the mission of The Arc Otsego Re-Use Center.


This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

High School Diploma/GED strongly preferred. 


To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate the following competencies: Sound decision-making and judgment, interpersonal skills, planning/organizing, strategic thinking, time management and delegating. The ability to work independently in multiple settings.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports/correspondence and good communication and writing skills.


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar or line graphs.


Must be knowledgeable about Internet software, Microsoft Office components including Word, Office, Excel and PowerPoint.  Becomes knowledgeable and trained in the use of Board PAQ and THERAP for event reporting and ongoing communication.


Must possess a valid NYS driver's license and an acceptable driving record.  Successful completion of all required agency training.
