Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise facilities, custodial, and fleet operations staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance management, and staff development
Oversee day-to-day maintenance, repairs, renovations, and improvements across all agency properties
Manage vendor and contractor relationships related to HVAC, fire safety, landscaping, construction, and other facility services
Implement and oversee preventive maintenance programs using a computerized maintenance management system
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including building codes, OSHA, ADA, OPWDD, and life safety standards
Provide strategic oversight of the agency vehicle fleet in coordination with the Fleet Coordinator, ensuring regulatory compliance and cost-effective operations
Prepare and manage facilities and fleet budgets; monitor expenditures and recommend capital improvements
Lead facility renovation, construction, and capital improvement projects from planning through completion
Serve as the primary contact for safety, emergency preparedness, disaster response, and environmental sustainability initiatives
Participate in agency leadership activities, trainings, and special projects as assigned
Respond to facility emergencies and support on-call operations as required
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in facilities management, engineering, construction management, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant trade certification(s), technical training, and progressively responsible facilities management experience
Minimum of five (5) years of facilities or building maintenance experience, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or management role
Knowledge & Skills
Working knowledge of building systems, preventive maintenance, and facilities operations
Familiarity with applicable building codes, OSHA and EPA requirements, and life safety standards
Strong leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, contractors, regulators, and leadership
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn agency systems (e.g., maintenance management and fleet tracking software)
Licenses & Requirements
Valid New York State driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Successful completion of required agency training
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This position may require occasional physical activity including walking, standing, lifting up to 25 pounds, and responding to emergency situations. Work is primarily indoors with periodic outdoor work and exposure to mechanical equipment, temperature variations, and noise.
