Controller

As a key partner to the CFO, the Controller will manage the day-to-day accounting operations of the finance department: accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, purchasing, and fiscal intermediary.

The ideal candidate is well-versed in not-for-profit accounting, has strong technical skills [Excel in particular], knows how to extract/stage/analyze data, and has experience with process automation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Detail oriented with excellent mathematical, accounting and analytical skills

  • Strong technical skills with advanced ability in Excel

  • Experience with budget administration, analysis, and reporting

  • Knowledge of NYS and Federal regulations re - tax, payroll, filing requirements, etc

  • Possess good interpersonal, written, oral, and communication abilities, and effective time management/organizational skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with agency reports and information

  • Posting journal entries,

  • Preparing monthly financial statements,

  • Financial analysis,

  • Maintaining an organized system of accounting records,

  • Monitoring internal controls, and interfacing with external auditors

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides supervision/direction to all employees within the Business Office including but not limited to; Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Purchasing, Fiscal Intermediary, Accounting Assistant and Payroll.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 7 years relevant work experience with at least 3 years supervisory experience

  • Not-for-profit experience - familiarity with OPWDD, OMH preferred

  • Strong ability in NetSuite preferred

A combination of education and experience that in the opinion of the reviewing agency that meets the standards of the program

REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid NYS driver's license and an acceptable driving record

  • Successful completion of all required agency/state/federal training

  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
